University of Cambridge, 4-year PhD Studentship Programme in Cardiovascular Research

Cardiovascular Research at the University of CambridgeApplications are invited for the Autumn 2011 intake for the University of Cambridge 4-year PhD programme in Cardiovascular Research, funded by the British Heart Foundation.

This exciting programme is a new initiative to train biological and quantitative scientists in cross-disciplinary cardiovascular research, combining formal training in molecular and cellular biology, physiology of model organisms, human physiology, human genetics, genomics and population health sciences.

The first year of the programme comprises either a series of seminars and lab rotations (assessed for the MRes degree) or a taught course in Epidemiology (assessed for the MPhil Degree). Successful candidates then progress to PhD training in an appropriate lab.

Cardiovascular Research at the University of Cambridge

This programme faculty comprises 37 world-leading researchers from the Schools of Medicine and Biological Sciences, the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and the Institute of Public Health, who combine expertise in Vascular Biology, Stem Cell and Developmental Biology, and Population Health and Genomics.

Applicants will require a 2:1 degree or higher in a related biological or quantitative subject. Support includes a stipend (currently £18,685 for years one and two, £19,619 for year three and £20,600 for year four), PhD registration fees at UK/EU student rate, research expenses and some travel costs.
