Closing date for applications: 8 January 2010
Interview date (for short-listed candidates): Monday 25 January 2010
Applications are invited for two 4-year Wellcome Trust studentships and two 4-year MRC studentships. Both funding bodies provide fees at the UK/EU rate and a generous living allowance; further details on what funding the programme provides are available on our website at http://www.cimr.cam.ac.uk/study/cimr.html.
The CIMR 4 Year PhD Programme has been established in recognition of the scientific excellence of the CIMR and the desire to train more students in science using our excellent facilities and wide range of academic disciplines. The CIMR has ~35 group leaders working in a range of disease mechanisms which fall into 4 broad categories: misfolded proteins and disease; intracellular membrane traffic and cell biology; autoimmune disease; haematopoietic stem cell biology. All members of the CIMR will contribute to the training programme.
In the first year, students rotate through 3 ten-week mini-projects and take lecturers and courses, which provide excellent grounding in core scientific areas; a portfolio of research reports is examined at the end of the year for a masters degree. Students then select an area for in-depth doctoral study in years 2-4.
Students with or expecting to attain at least an upper second class honours degree are invited to apply.
