University of Glasgow, in vivo Mammalian Physiology/Pharmacology 4 Year PhD Programme

Overview

Starting in 2009, we have 3 x 1 plus 3 PhD studentships available in in vivo mammalian physiology/pharmacolology. Students will obtain a Home Office licence and carry out two in vivo laboratory based projects in Year 1 (click here for MRes details), followed by a 3 Year in vivo PhD programme in years 3-4. This is a unique and excellent opportunity for students wishing to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry or academic research where experience in in vivo skills is extremely advantageous.

There will be an opportunity to apply novel in vivo imaging techniques within these studies which build on the Integrative Mammalian Biology Initiative within Glasgow (see:  http://www.imb-glasgow.org), supported by a Capacity Building Award in Integrative Mammalian Biology funded by the BBSRC, British Pharmacological Society, KTN, MRC and SFC.

Potential supervisors are drawn from the faculties of Biomedical and Life Sciences (B), Medicine (M) and Veterinary Medicine (V) within the research areas of neuroscience (N), cardiovascular science (C) and immunology (I). Search via the University Staff List for details of individual research groups.

These include the following possible MRes projects (preliminary titles and subject to change): 1+3 MRC PhD Studentships in in vivo Mammalian Biology
