How you apply differs slightly depending on the type of doctorate you are applying for. You can either apply for one of our PhD projects or submit your own proposal. There are also different steps taken when applying for specific projects in the NTU studentship scheme. You do not need to have studied a Masters to apply for a PhD. We accept applications from candidates who have a first or upper second-class undergraduate degree. You can find out more about applying for a PhD on our website.

PhDs usually take four years to complete full-time (including the writing up period) and up to eight years part-time. Find out about our PhD opportunities.

Our annual fully funded PhD studentship scheme opens each Autumn and opportunities are available in all subject areas. We also advertise PhD studentships for specific projects throughout the year.
