Applications are now being accepted for the 2014/15 PhD program at Scuola Normale Superiore http://www.sns.it/en/. Highly motivated candidates are invited to apply for fully-funded positions within a doctoral program.

Since its foundation in 1810, the Scuola Normale Superiore (SNS) has built a reputation as one of the most successful universities not only in Italy, but an international level in terms of offering to its students ideal conditions to train and develop skills in the field of scientific research.

All PhD programs offer unique conditions for scientific growth. All students admitted to our PhD program receive full financial support. This includes tuition, fees, and a cost-of living stipend (14,084 euro per year, plus free meals). Support is independent of need, provided a student remains in good academic standing and is making satisfactory progress towards his/her PhD degree. All students will be assigned further funding for their research activity and travel. Each PhD course offers scholarships reserved to students that graduated outside of Italy.

Candidates can apply for one of the following positions:

  • Political Science and Sociology

The Program consists of lectures and seminars. In consultation with their course coordinator, each year students will present a study plan to the Faculty Council where they specify what research and training they plan to do in the coming academic year.
During the three years of the course, students are expected to participate in seminars offered by the Scuola and to take part in research internships in institutions both in and outside Italy. At the end of each academic year, with the exception of the final year, the students will then be interviewed on the studies and research they have carried out during the year in front of a committee appointed by the Faculty Council and including teachers of their course. Successfully passing this interview means that the students can keep their post and fellowship, and thus be admitted to the following year.
At the interview, the students will present a report on their scholarly activity, their research and its results, any seminars, congresses, or other scientific activities they have participated in, and any publications they have produced. For admission into the final year, this report will include a section relating to the progress made in their research project.Google Map of Scuola Normale Superiore

Admissions are based on student's academic work and interviews.
All PhD courses will start from November 1st, 2014. Interviews will be held in July.

Application for admission must be made online in the SNS website area dedicated to this Call by midnight (CET): https://serse.sns.it/en/
