Five studentships are available on this prestigious Wellcome Trust supported PhD training programme in "Combating Infectious Diseases". This programme provides a unique opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research at the interface of theory and experiment in the area of infectious disease. A first year of cohort-adaptive group and individual training is followed by a 3 year PhD with cross-disciplinary supervision.
The programme is developed around inter-related research themes that are central to our ability to combat infections:
The programme is led by the Department of Biology with training and research supervision provided by staff from Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, and the Hull York Medical School. Our research centres provide the strong interdisciplinary research and training environment: Centre for Immunology and Infection (CII), York Structural Biology Lab (YSBL) and York Centre for Complex System Analysis (YCCSA).
Five 4-year fully-funded PhD studentships are available on this prestigious programme for entry in October 2015. The studentships are funded by The Wellcome Trust and cover a generous tax-free stipend (around £21,000 per year), research costs and tuition fees. Overseas students are welcome to apply.
We aim to recruit a cohort of exceptional students with a broad and complementary range of backgrounds e.g. biological science, biomedicine, chemical and physical sciences, engineering or mathematics. Applicants will be able to communicate a strong motivation for impacting on infectious disease and an understanding of the opportunities and challenges of interdisciplinary research.
We welcome applications from all suitably-qualified students with, or expecting to gain, at least an Upper Second Class Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, irrespective of their nationality.
Closing date for applications: Sunday 11 January 2015 at 23h59min.
