About the Programme

The School of Business, Management and Economics at the University of Sussex is seeking applications for scholarships to enable the holders to complete PhD degrees within one of the departments within the School.

The Scholarship is offered for a maximum of three years, renewable on a yearly basis, subject to satisfactory performance on the doctoral degree. Successful candidates will receive a full fee waiver plus a stipend of £8,500 per annum paid in three instalments in October, January and April. In addition, candidates are also permitted to undertake teaching within the School up to a maximum of six hours per week during term time. This will be paid at grade 5 or 6 of the University's Doctoral Tutor salary scale. The payment for teaching the maximum number of hours at Grade 6 is approximately £6,400.00 per annum at current rates, and will be paid on a monthly basis during term time.

The scholarships are available for UK/EU and overseas applicants. Applicants should have an upper second class honours degree, and already have, or currently be studying for, a Master's degree in a related subject, or equivalent qualification if an applicant that did not study in the UK. Proof of proficiency in English is also required, i.e., an IELTS certificate taken within the last two years showing at least 6.5 overall with at least 6.0 in each of the four sections.

These scholarships will be held in one of the School's three constituent departments. Four scholarships are offered by the Department of Business and Management (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/bam/), enabling the holders to study for PhDs in either (i) Business and Management; or (ii) Accounting and Finance. Three are offered by the Department of Economics (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/economics/) for PhDs in Economics. And three are offered by the Science Policy Research Unit (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/spru/) for PhDs in either (i) Science and Technology Policy or (ii) Technology and Innovation Management.
