Dr H Tessler, Prof G Jeffery  No more applications being accepted  Competition Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

We invite proposals for a PhD project rooted in the disciplines that contribute to the field of popular and commercial music studies. We are particularly interested in proposals which examine changes in the institutions, values and production practices that underpin changing patterns of business, enterprise and/or technological applications within the music-related creative industries. The project should seek insights into contemporary shifts in particular musical and cultural practices, exploring the ways in which music is produced, distributed and consumed in contemporary societies or within particular communities of musical practice.

The project may take a variety of forms, using methodologies drawn from social science, cultural studies, business studies and/or practice-led musical research as appropriate. The student will be based in the Creative Futures Institute on UWS’ Ayr campus. We have excellent facilities for production and performance alongside high quality AV and library resources, with strong links to the commercial music sector and academic networks in Scotland and internationally.
