About the Project

Critics and the press have labelled at least three “generations” of young media-influenced writers in Spain and Latin America since the 1990s: “Generación McOndo”, “Generación X” and “Generación Nocilla”. Studies of these and other Spanish-language hypermodern writers have focused specifically on either Spanish or Latin-American contexts, which contradicts the global nature of their work, the glaring similarities across geographical areas and the personal connections the authors have across borders. This project would place writers from both sides of the Atlantic in a larger framework, formulating a common though differentiated Hispanic reaction to the technological and social revolutions of the contemporary world. It would also take into account the heavy influence of English-language narrative and visual culture.
