About the Project

The thermal management of nanofilms and nanowires in semiconductor nanostructures is an important issue due to the need to dissipate heat efficiently. The phonon mean free path is the basic parameter describing the thermal transport. This project will be concerned with the investigation of the thermal conductivity of diamond and semiconductor nanowires by molecular dynamics computer
simulations. The force fields will be optimised to give results consistent with ab initio electronic structure total energy calculations.

Funding Notes

This project is available to students applying for funded PhD studentships and may be altered or amended.
Studentships will be awarded to successful applicants from all applications received. Applicants must satisfy RCUK residency rules for the full studentship.
