The role of dystrophin spectrin repeats in membrane stabilization

Dept/School/Faculty:
PhD Supervisor:
Co-Supervisor:
Application Deadline:
Applications accepted all year round

This project aims to study the biomechanical properties of lipid/dystrophin/F-actin interactions in vitro and in vivo. You will be working in a highly multidisciplinary environment that includes cell biologists, biochemists and physicists to investigate the consequence of known Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) patient mutations on the structure-function relationship of the protein dystrophin. During this project, you will employ a range of molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, coupled to biophysics and cell biology approaches. The ultimate aim is to translate the data gained at molecular level into a biological setting, by examining the morphological effects caused by dystrophin mutations on living myotubes and myofibres.

Funding Notes:

This research project is one of a number of projects in the department. It is in competition for funding with the other projects. Usually the project which receives the best applicant will be awarded the funding. The funding is available to citizens of a number of European countries (including the UK). In most cases this will include all EU nationals. However full funding may not be available to all applicants.
