Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)
About the Project
We are inviting applications for this DEFRA funded PhD studentship to commence as soon as possible.
The project will focus on the responses of bats and their invertebrate prey to artificial night-time lighting. We are looking for candidates with an outstanding academic record, who combine an aptitude for quantitative data analysis with the ability to conduct physically-demanding field work across the South-West of England and South Wales. Previous experience of Geographical Information Systems would be an advantage.
For eligible students the award will cover UK/EU tuition fees and an annual stipend of £13,590 for full-time students, pro rata for part-time students) for three years. Studentships will be awarded on the basis of merit.
The successful applicants will benefit from working within a lively research environment within Biosciences (Streatham Campus, Exeter) at the College of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Exeter. There will be joint supervision by Dr Fiona Mathews (Streatham Campus) and Prof. Kevin Gaston (Tremough Campus) and it is expected that the student will attend meetings and workshops in both locations.
A driving licence would be an advantage. The project will require field work in remote places and at times the requirement to be working alone. Heavy lifting may also be required.
