PhD Research Project

Developmental activities of young people in sport

PhD Supervisor:
Application Deadline:
Applications accepted all year round
Funding Availability:
Self-Funded PhD Students Only

The developmental pathways of young people in sport are influenced by many factors (e.g. family, hours of play/practice, coaching, schooling etc.). There are a number of developmental frameworks e.g. the Developmental, Model of Sport Participation (Côté and Fraser-Thomas, 2007) but there is little empirical evidence supporting them and they are largely based upon the study of elite or near elite level athletes. Applications are sought from individuals wishing to explore the developmental activities of sports people against the existing theoretical frameworks of sporting development. Study may be in one specific sport or more generally across a range of sports.
