Cavity quantum optics with nanocrystal quantum dots

A studentship is available to study for a DPhil degree in the Photonic Nanomaterials Group in the Department of Materials, University of Oxford (http://users.ox.ac.uk/~png). The project will entail studying the physics of nanocrystalline semiconductor quantum dots positioned in novel optical microcavities developed recently by the group. The targets of the project are to achieve and explore the regime of strong coupling between an exciton in the quantum dot and the resonant cavity mode at low temperature. This will enable the study of polariton physics with engineered excitons, providing novel routes to quantum information devices.

The student will join a vibrant and growing photonics community (about 40 research groups) in Oxford and benefit from close interactions with several other leading groups in the fields of quantum photonics, nanomaterials and quantum information.
