About the Project
Organizational stressors are a salient component of the stress process in sport (cf. Fletcher, Hanton, & Mellalieu, 2006). They can create a number of undesirable consequences for sport performers who encounter them if they are not sufficiently addressed, such as burnout, dissatisfaction, negative emotions, impaired preparation for and performance in major competitions, and affected health and well-being.
Although much is known about the organizational stressors that sport performers encounter (see, for a review, Arnold & Fletcher, 2012; Fletcher et al., 2006), only recently has a valid and reliable measure to comprehensively assess these demands been developed. This measure, the Organizational Stressor Indicator for Sport Performers (OSI-SP; Arnold, Fletcher, & Daniels, 2013), assesses the frequency, intensity, and duration of the organizational stressors encountered by sport performers, consisting of five subscales: Goals and Development, Logistics and Operations, Team and Culture, Coaching, and Selection. Evidence has been provided for the content, factorial, concurrent, and discriminant validity of the OSI-SP, as well as its internal consistency (Arnold et al., 2013); however, the purpose of this doctoral programme of research will be to further develop and validate the indicator, and advance the measurement of organizational stressors.
Funding Notes
Dr Arnold will consider applications for ESRC-funded SWDTC studentships, as well as University and Graduate School Funding.
For further details of funding, see: http://www.bath.ac.uk/hss/graduate-school/research-programmes/funding
Funding is highly competitive. You must research sources of funding early (sometimes up to 12 months in advance) and apply (in conjunction with your agreed supervisor) for as many as possible.
