About the Project

Applications are invited for the above post to work on the activation of small molecules, including hydrocarbons, by organometallic f-block complexes under the supervision of Professor Polly L. Arnold. The project will involve the synthesis of new lanthanide, actinide, and actinyl [AnO2]n+ complexes and the study of their reactivity.

The successful candidate will work in Edinburgh and will also be part of the 'catalytic C-H bond functionalisation focus group' that was founded jointly through the 'Institute of Advanced Scholars' programme with Prof Fritz Kuehn of the Technical University Munich in Germany.

This studentship will develop C-H bond functionalisation reactions by using our f-block chemistry to enhance the oxidative capabilities of late metal oxo complexes that are normally only capable of alkene oxidation.

How to Apply:

Send a CV and two references to Professor Polly Arnold ([Email Address Removed]).

Funding Notes

A fully funded 3-year PhD studentship is available to start by 1 September 2014. The candidate must satisfy EPSRC studentship eligibility requirements, having settled status in the UK and having been ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the studentship.
