About the Project

Bournemouth University is delighted to invite applications for a fully-funded PhD research studentship on Legal regulation of Big Data, with an expected starting date of September 2014. The research will be conducted in conjunction with the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management (CIPPM) and the School of Design, Engineering & Computing (DEC).

Applicants are expected to have a solid background in law, with expertise in at least one of the following areas: intellectual property, data protection or competition law. We encourage submission of original and thought-provoking research proposals addressing core regulatory issues of the Big Data environment, such as: access to data, lawfulness of data processing, interoperability, reuse of public sector information, mass-digitization, copyright clearance, informational monopolies, as well as any other matter deserving in-depth legal investigation. No restrictions are imposed as to the legal perspective and the methodology of the research.
CIIPM (www.cippm.org.uk) is one of Europe’s foremost, innovation oriented research centres in intellectual property law. It was established in 2000 and has rapidly achieved an international reputation for its policy research, and its consultancy projects in particular with creative industries and emerging technologies. The Centre is part of the Law Department of the Business School.
