About the Project

Loughborough University Graduate School is delighted to offer a funded studentship in Safety Training and Competency Development for Nuclear New Builds. This studentship is part of the University funded Safety and Resilience Mini-Centre for Doctoral Training (Mini-CDT). Four other projects will run in parallel to this studentship. Safety and Resilience represent key elements of the cross-disciplinary themes set out in the 2011 UK research council’s delivery plans, as well as the recent EU Horizon 2020 programme. New infrastructure/energy projects (e.g., HS2, Crossrail, Hinkley Point C) together with a host of other societal challenges (e.g., food safety, secure, clean and efficient energy; smart, integrated, sustainable transport systems) all raise issues involving safety and resilience.

This project will be based in the Loughborough Design School and the School of Civil and Building Engineering.
Internationally renowned for its research excellence, the University has a vibrant research student community of around 1200 students supported by a £6 million annual investment. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) every department was found to be undertaking research that is internationally recognised, with many regarded as ‘world leading’. Comfortably ranked in the top 20 of all major university league tables, the University was awarded The Sunday Times University of the Year 2008-2009 and was voted The Times Higher Education ‘Best Student Experience’ in England for six years running.
