About the Project
Funded Ph.D. Position Available in the area of “Obesity Risk and Early Life Nutritional Environment”
A funded Ph.D. position in Nutrition, Metabolism and Genetics is available immediately at the University of Calgary located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dr. Raylene Reimer has been awarded funding through the University of Calgary Eyes High Doctoral Recruitment Strategy for a Ph.D. scholarship ideally starting September 2014 but as late as January 2015. The proposed research would allow a new Ph.D. student to conduct basic research testing the effect of novel dietary fibres on programmed obesity risk in established rat models in the research group.
The impact of obesity is felt on a national and global scale and there is a growing need for solutions to help with the prevention and management of obesity and its related conditions. Dietary fibre intake is significantly lower than recommended therefore interventions directed at increasing fibre consumption are needed. Dr. Reimer’s lab has been instrumental in testing the impact of novel dietary fibres on metabolic health. Her bench to bedside research approach allows trainees the opportunity to undertake mechanistic studies in animal models and participate in translational work in human clinical studies.
