About the Project

Applications are invited for a PhD in the field of Modern and Contemporary Literature and Culture; applications in the areas of Gender and Sexuality Studies and / or the Medical Humanities may be especially welcome.

An enhanced stipend of £15,000 per annum is offered to a strong candidate for this full time PhD scholarship within the English research group, which is based within the Institute for Design, Culture and the Arts at Teesside University. The scholarship is funded by Teesside University, and will be for three years, subject to satisfactory progress.

The English research group is a dynamic community, with a focus on Modern and Contemporary Literature and Culture. Research areas include twentieth and twenty first century literature and culture, gender and sexuality studies, postcolonial studies, film, television and digital media studies, creative writing, and theatre and performance studies.

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should hold or expect to obtain a good honours degree (2.1 or above) and/or Masters level qualification in a relevant discipline.

Funding Notes

Although we can accept applications from non-EU students, the funding will only cover a home/EU student fee. The difference between the home/EU and non-EU student fee would be payable by the applicant.
