About the Project

First class students are invited to apply for a PhD studentship in the area of biosensors at the University of Bath.
The Biosensor Research Laboratory (http://go.bath.ac.uk/biosensors) conducts research in electronic biosensor devices: electrochemical impedance, biologically-sensitive field-effect transistors, (localized) surface plasmon resonance, quartz crystal microbalance, electronic addressing of microarrays, nanobiosensors, etc. Applications are mainly in the areas of medical diagnostics (in particular cancer diagnosis), environmental monitoring and drug discovery.
This project deals with the combination of on-chip techniques such as impedance, field-effect transistors, amperometry and localised surface plasmon resonance for the parallel detection of biomarkers.
The research has a strong multidisciplinary nature. The student is expected to collaborate with project partners from the areas of chemistry, pharmacy, molecular biology and/or clinical and industrial partners.

Candidates are expected to have (or about to have) an undergraduate Master-level First Class degree and/or MSc Distinction, or an internationally recognised equivalent. For application purposes please upload a copy of your qualifications (transcript and certificate if already obtained), as well as an English translation if these documents are not in English.

Funding Notes

For UK candidates, the studentship covers tuition fees and a stipend (approx £13,800/year) for 3.5 years.
EU candidates who have lived in the UK for more than 3 years might also be eligible. All other candidates are not eligible.

This position will be available for starting in October 2017. Candidates are encouraged to contact the supervisor as soon as possible.
Please send a cover letter together with your CV and transcripts to [Email Address Removed] to request further information.
