Studentship 2, reference number 1440909:
A three-year PhD studentship is available in the NIBSC Division of Virology in collaboration with the Imperial College London. As part of our on-going work for the WHO influenza vaccine strain selection we perform serological studies using haemagglutination inhibition (HI) assays to monitor how well the current vaccine matches newly circulating influenza virus strains. Over the last few years, HI assays for the H3N2 virus subtype have become increasingly difficult to perform and read. This issue has led to a number of key questions that are relevant to both our ability to perform serological studies with the H3N2 viruses and our fundamental understanding of the way these viruses bind to cells as well as the immunological response to them. More details can be found on the Civil Service Jobs Portal (see below).
Key Responsibilities:
1. To undertake research in line with the project aims
2. To fulfill Imperial College PhD course requirements
3. To report regularly to the supervisory team (including external supervisor) about progress and planned work
