About the Project
This interdisciplinary project will explore innovative ways to digitally provide curation, access and reuse Europe’s cultural heritage resources within the context of cultural dialogue, tourism and cultural industries.
At present millions of digital heritage resources are increasingly being made available online (for example through the Europeana portal), with a variety of content types, quality and rights. But so far a number of issues associated with digital cultural heritage information systems and services are yet to be adequately addressed, for example in relation to content organization and access, users outreach and sustainability. The aim of the project is to evaluate methodologies and approaches leading to richer interpretations of European heritage and cultural identity in the digital arena, and to bring new perspectives to the creation of applications and services for digital cultural assets.
The following research questions are of interest:
What methods can be defined for generating sustainable and added-value digital services to curate, access and reuse European heritage?
What models and tools can be designed to connect marginalized communities with digital heritage resources?
How can intangible heritage traditions (for example food heritage) be curated, made accessible and reused in digital environments?
The candidate will work in a vibrant research environment within the newly established iSchool at Northumbria University (www.northumbria.ac.uk/ischool), part of the iSchools organization worldwide (http://ischools.org/) dedicated to advancing the information field.
He/she will make original contribution to the advancement of methods and knowledge in Digital Heritage access and reuse.
