Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)
About the Project
The UCL Skin group has recently shown that actives may be depth profiled in skin in vivo
with Confocal Raman Spectroscopy (CRS). These findings as well as other recent studies
have opened up significant new opportunities in understanding mass transport in skin. The
objectives of this multidisciplinary PhD project supported by an EPSRC Case studentship
award are to exploit the unique ability of CRS to provide molecular level insights into skin
transport of both actives and formulation components. These important issues will be
elucidated in a novel manner by collecting, simultaneous, spatially resolved chemical
information. The successful candidate will have regular placements with the industrial
sponsor over the course of the studentship thus gaining valuable industrial insight and
training.
Main Methods and Techniques to be employed
In vitro permeation testing
Rational formulation design
Confocal Raman Spectroscopy
Person specifications
The successful applicant will be expected to have a UK Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy,
Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, awarded with first or upper second-class Honours, or an
overseas qualification of an equivalent standard from a recognised higher education institute,
or a recognised taught Master’s degree.
Applications must only include CV, personal statement plus the contact details of two
referees and should be sent to Mr Victor Diran ([Email Address Removed]).
