Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
About the Project
The Bio-Protection Research Centre (BPRC) http://bioprotection.org.nz is a Centre of Research Excellence funded by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). We are a virtual organisation with members in five partner institutes. The BPRC brings together New Zealand’s leading experts in bioprotection for integrated and innovative research programmes.
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in plant-microbe interactions based at Lincoln University in New Zealand. The successful applicant will focus on plant-endophyte communication, and contribute to an internationally competitive research programme. The student will use cutting-edge epigenetic, transcriptomic and molecular biology tools to generate a comprehensive model of the regulation of gene expression in Arabidopsis during its interaction with diverse chemical molecules from fungal endophytes.
This programme is an international effort between different institutions in Europe (Spain and Netherlands), America (Mexico and USA) and New Zealand.
You will:
• Study epigenetic, metabolomic and genetic mechanisms that regulate plant-microbe interaction.
• Use Arabidopsis thaliana and beneficial fungal microbes as a model system.
• Have access to all BPRC facilities.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners.
• Work in close cooperation with a multidisciplinary team including experts in fungi, plant biology and metabolomics.
We offer
• The possibility to work on a cutting-edge project in a highly motivated research team.
• A stimulating and diverse research environment.
• Advanced training opportunities.
Funding Notes
This studentship is funded by a NZ$28,000 tax-free stipend per annum, plus tuition fees, for 3 years.
Applicants will need:
• a BSc (Hons), MSc or other research degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Bioinformatics with a strong academic record. An interest in plant biology would be an advantage.
• Excellent communication skills.
