About the Project

John Adams Institute (JAI) for Accelerator Science offers a PhD opportunity in the area of advanced instrumentation, in particular, development of beyond state-of-the-art non-invasive electron bunch length monitor based on coherent Cherenkov diffraction radiation for advanced Free Electron Laser facilities and future electron-positron linear colliders. An applicant will work with the world leading experts in the field from STFC Accelerator Science and Technology Centre in Daresbury Laboratory in collaboration with scientists from CERN (Switzerland), KEK (Japan) and Russia and will be able to acquire a very broad range of skills including analytical calculations, introduction to advanced simulation techniques, engineering design of both hardware for ultra-high vacuum applications, its automation and manipulation, data acquisition system, statistical data analysis, presentation of the results and scientific paper writing.
