About the Project

LIUC-Università Cattaneo offers a the three year PhD Programme in Management, Finance and Accounting designed to prepare students primarily for research-oriented careers in academia, multinational companies, public and private organizations, financial institutions so that they can interpret business phenomena in an integrated way, using the general methodological principles for quantitative and qualitative research in the social sciences, with the perspectives offered by the subject areas of corporate finance, accounting and management engineering.
Duration of the program is 3 years. The courses are offered in English. After the methodological courses the program is organized in two tracks: management; finance and accounting.
Location
LIUC - Università Cattaneo is an independent, state-recognised institution situated in the Greater Milan area (Castellanza).
It was founded in 1991 by 300 enterpreneurs united in the common goal of a new project for higher education, close to the world of business and professional and with a new teaching model. This has been the hallmark of LIUC since the beginning.

The University is housed in a nineteenth century cotton mill which was beautifully restored by the world famous Italian architect Aldo Rossi, winner of the Pritzker Award for Architecture and is surrounded by over 60,000 square metres of parkland.
Today, its three Schools: Economics and Management, Industrial Engineering, and Law offer BSc and MSc degree courses that are delivered in Italian and in English.

LIUC shares close links with over 100 universities in diverse countries all over the world.
The University’s aim is to create a multi-cultural atmosphere in which Italian and international students can grow and flourish both academically and socially.

Project Detail
One of the scholarships available is funded by Esselunga S.p.A. with research on the topic: "Study of the opportunities and ways to use analytics data and simulation to support the planning of the activities of the centres of production and/or sales".

Esselunga S.p.A., founded in 1957, is now one of the leading retail companies in Italy, with more than 150 stores in Lombardia, Toscana, Emilia Romagna, Piemonte, Veneto, Liguria e Lazio and more than 22.000 employees.

The project is aimed at studying the application of a set of enabling technologies typical of industry 4.0 to the retail sector of activity. In particular, two technologies will be investigated: data analytics and simulation.
The idea is to develop models and too
ls able to support the planning activities of the Italian Retail Company Esselunga, concerning:
• production centres, such as butchery, bakery, gastronomy, fishery
• logistic centres
• selling points
• coordination and integration among the three above

The project will be conducted under the supervision of, and in collaboration with, the Esselunga internal staff unit dedicated to process and product innovation and to the company’s continuous improvement.
Entry requirements
Laurea Magistrale or equivalent foreign academic degree (Master of Arts, Master of Sciences), or who expects to achieve such a qualification by 31 October 2017 in the following classes:
• LM-77 Sciences Economics - Business
• LM-16 Finance
• LM-56 Science of Economics
• LM-31 Engineering Management
• LM-59 Science of Public Communication, Companies and Advertising
• LM-63 Science of Public Administrations
• LM-76 Science of Economics for the environment and culture.
Fluent Italian Language required.
The process of selection of applicants for the award of the “Esselunga” scholarship will take into account the consistency of skills with the objectives and the expected results of these programmes of research.

Funding Notes

Scholarships and tuition waiver are offered for the entire three years duration of the Programme and are renewed yearly upon verification of the conditions specified in the Regulations of the PhD Programme in terms of applicants’ performances.
The yearly amount of the scholarship is € 13,638.47, before social security and health insurance contributions to be paid by the recipient.
