About the Project

A PhD project with Prof Thomas will focus on the epidemiology of chronic disease.

For example delineating the inter relationships between determinants of chronic disease such as lifestyle and biochemical parameters and their impact on the incidence of disease outcomes or in physical or cognitive decline. A major focus is on the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study (30,000 older Chinese volunteers) and the UK THIN (The Health Improvement Network, 11 million General Practice records) datasets. The specific focus can be tailored based on the student’s interest and availability of the data.

Further details on the available datasets and examples of work from current or previous students is available on the website (http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/neil-thomas)
