Competition Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)
About the Project
Vaccination strategies are increasingly well understood for closed population SIR epidemic models where individuals can only be infected once and the pool of susceptible individuals is not replenished by the birth or immigration of fresh susceptibles. However considerably less work has been done for endemic diseases where the disease can persist in the population for a very long time. In particular, for endemic diseases ongoing time dependent control strategies are more applicable than a vaccination policy which infects a proportion of the population at a fixed point in time. This project will look at the effect of various vaccination strategies on a community, where individuals live in households. The aim will be to identify the most effective control strategy and whether vaccination should be targeted at households or individuals.
Funding Notes
Funding may be available for UK/EU students. If funding is awarded for this project it will cover tuition fees and stipend for UK students. EU students will normally be eligible for tuition fees only.
International students will not be eligible for this funding; they are still welcome to apply for this project but would have to find alternative funding.
If no specific funding is available for your PhD project, the school will provide a standard statement about the possibility of funding through competitive means.
