Protecting Consumers’ Privacy in Digital Right Management

The advent of Internet technologies, such as the World Wide Web, has made the distributions of digital contents faster, cheaper, and a lot easier. This has inevitably led to piracy concerns, and as a result, there are growing efforts on developing Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies. However, most of the existing efforts are on protecting content creators’ or providers’ rights, and consumers’ rights have largely been overlooked. One of the consumers’ rights is preserving their identity/transaction privacy. The provision of such a privacy service
without any additional mechanism to ensure accountability can lead to the service, or other DRM entities’ rights, being abused.

This project is aimed at investigating and designing efficient solutions to provide revocable privacy services to digital content consumers and to ensure that the consumers’ privacy be preserved without affecting the rights of other DRM entities.
