About the Project

This project seeks to understand the rationale behind the increasing politicisation of elite sport and the increasing investment in elite sport and sports mega-events by governments in the last 20 years. Why are states of all regime-types competing to put on a sports mega-event? One of the key reasons is for 'international prestige', yet, we know little of what this is in reality, how it functions, how it impacts positively on host states. The same could be said for the 'feelgood factor' - what is it? how do we measure it?

Funding Notes
