Click here to see the results for all UK universitiesDr Paul Davies is a Reader in Organic Chemistry at the University of Birmingham, where he also serves as the Senior Admissions Tutor. He obtained his PhD in Chemistry from Bristol University in 2003, following an MChem in Chemistry with Year In Industry from the University of Sheffield in 1999. Dr Davies leads an active research group that focuses on synthesis and catalysis, aiming to design and develop novel synthetic transformations that enable the efficient preparation of complex molecules with reduced effort, cost, and waste. His research encompasses various areas, including reaction development, transition-metal catalysis, organic synthesis, and mechanistic studies. Dr Davies has held several notable positions, including being an appointed Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry Organic Division Council from 2018 to 2021 and previously serving as an Elected Member from 2015 to 2018. He was also the Chair of the Young Chemists Panel for the Society of Chemical Industry from 2014 to 2016.
Dr Paul Davies'' research focuses on synthesis and catalysis within organic chemistry. His group is engaged in the design, development, and application of novel synthetic transformations and strategies aimed at preparing complex molecules more efficiently, with reduced effort, cost, and waste. The research projects encompass various areas including reaction development, transition-metal catalysis (utilising metals such as Au, Ag, Pt, Cu, Rh, and Pd), synthesis of biologically relevant products, mechanistic studies, organic synthesis, organocatalysis, and organometallic chemistry.
