Dr Alexey Sergeev obtained his undergraduate degree from Saint-Petersburg State University and his PhD degree from Moscow State University in 2005, with advisors Prof Irina P. Beletskaya and Dr Galina A. Artamkina. Following a brief period in the industry at IRIX Neva, he pursued postdoctoral studies with Prof Matthias Beller at the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis in Rostock, Germany, from 2006 to 2009. In 2009, Dr Sergeev relocated to the United States to work with Prof John F. Hartwig at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and subsequently at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2012, he returned to Europe to commence his independent career at the University of Liverpool and the Stephenson Institute for Renewable Energy as a Lecturer in Chemistry. Dr Sergeev was promoted to Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in 2022.
Dr. Alexey Sergeev''s research focuses on catalysis, particularly in the development of new catalytic processes and materials. He has a keen interest in sustainable chemistry and renewable energy applications. His work includes the study of transition metal-catalysed reactions, with a specific emphasis on the design and synthesis of novel catalysts for various organic transformations. Dr. Sergeev has also explored the mechanisms of catalytic processes to enhance their efficiency and selectivity.
