About the Project

Understanding brain structural organisation is fundamental to future determination of brain function. We will employ a multidimensional analysis of cerebral cortex – including parameters such as grey level index (GLI), cell counts and measures of cell size. Pilot studies with this technique indicate that prefrontal and other regions of cerebral cortex display a novel form of modular organization previously undescribed. In this project the multidimensional analysis will be refined and novel means of mathematically representing the data will be developed. Using this approach we will also create a novel brain map and build 3D representations of features revealed by the analysis.

Entry requirement: A first class or upper second class UK BSc (Hons) degree (or equivalent) in Neuroscience, Psychology, Anatomical Sciences or a related subject. Otherwise an MSc with at least a merit in a relevant subject.

Eligibility: Applications can be accepted from UK/EU and also International students. The minimum English language proficiency requirement for candidates who have not undertaken a higher degree at a UK HE institution is IELTS 6.5 (with no element to be below 6.0) or TOEFL 560/iBT 94-95.
