Prof M Eimer  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (European/UK Students Only)

About the Project

Applications are invited for a fully funded ESRC studentship for 3 years full time study in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Birkbeck College, University of London (start date Autumn 2015). The department was ranked 5th among Psychology departments in the UK in the 2014 Research Evaluation Framework (REF), based on the quality of its research and academic environment. The studentship includes payment of UK / EU level tuition fees, a maintenance allowance of approximately £15,800 p.a. and a research allowance of £750 p.a.

We are looking for a psychologist / cognitive neuroscientist interested in investigating the neural mechanisms involved in the control of selective visual attention and visual working memory. The studentship is linked to ESRC-funded research projects held by Professor Eimer. The research combines behavioural measures with measures of brain activity (EEG, event-related brain potentials) obtained during visual attention and working memory tasks. The goal of this research is to understand how the selection of target objects in visual environments is controlled, and how working memory contributes to attentional target selection.

Requirements

Applicants must have a first or upper second-class honours degree in Psychology or equivalent and should have completed an appropriate Masters degree. Applicants must also meet the residential eligibility requirements set out by the ESRC (see www.esrc.ac.uk/).
