The perception of shape in man and machine

The project will address aspects of shape perception in humans, including shape-from-shading, shape-from-texture and 3D vision, and consider how these might be applied to machine vision. Students with a background in Computer Science or Electronics and STRONG desire to combine the study of human and machine vision will be especially welcome. Students with a background in Psychology should have a strong interest in studying low level visual perception and very good computing and mathematics skills. The laboratory offers a comprehensive range of equipment for experimental testing, a stereoscopic digital camera and a purpose built lighting rig for generating both point and diffuse light sources.
