Computational Chemistry: Prediction of solubility from molecular simulation

This studentship is supported by Syngenta and Lancaster University. The project aims to predict solubility from molecular simulation. Accurate prediction of solubility remains an outstanding fundamental problem, which if resolved will deliver substantial and far reaching impact. Syngenta is a world leading Swiss-British multinational agribusiness that markets seeds and agrochemicals, with sales of approximately US$ 14.7 billion in 2013. It has research and development facilities in both the UK and Switzerland. The student will have an opportunity to spend one or more short placements at Syngenta.

Lancaster University is consistently highly ranked (~top 10) in the UK university league tables and is in the top 1% of universities globally. It is located on a beautiful campus in the North West of England, a few miles away from the stunning Lake District National Park.

You should have, or expect to have, a first-class degree or a good Masters degree (or equivalent) in chemical, biochemical or physical sciences. You should have a strong mathematical ability, an aptitude for computer programming, and excellent communications skills, both written and oral.
