Full-time PhD Studentship – Environmental sustainability issues related to operations management of firms
NUBS is offering a PhD studentship covering full tuition fees as well as tax-free living expenses of £13,650 per year (ESRC rate for 2010/11) for a period of up to three years. The studentship is open to Home/EU and Overseas candidates. The student is expected to work on environmental sustainability issues related to operations management of firms. Areas may include but need not be limited to: carbon neutral supply chains, sustainable logistics, the links between environmental performance and financial performance of firms, impacts of innovation on environmental and financial performance of firms, and, impacts of pressures from stakeholders on environmental performance of firms. Firms can be from the manufacturing sector or from the service sector (retail, banking, etc.). The successful candidate is expected to be able to work with multivariate statistical analysis models and software.
Criteria and Application Process
Applicants will normally be graduates of an approved university holding a Masters degree in a relevant subject (normally with an average over 65% in the taught modules and normally 65% in the dissertation, or its equivalent). Applicants may also be considered for admission if they have an honours degree in a relevant subject (with at least an upper second or its equivalent). Professional, business or industrial qualifications are also valued.
To apply for the NUBS studentship, applicants should provide a curriculum vitae and a 1000-word indicative, research proposal that focuses on any issue associated with environmental sustainability related to operations management of firms. In addition, you should include a personal statement/letter (up to a maximum of two single spaced A4 pages) outlining why you want to undertake this study, what you have to offer and any other information that you think we should know.
