| PhD Studentship: Organic Chemistry: Natural Product Synthesis/Organic Materials | ||||||||||||||||||
Research in the Florence group is concerned with the development of new methods and strategies for the practical synthesis of rare bioactive natural products. The targets we select represent an exciting range of secondary metabolites that display startling bioactivity in preliminary biological screening, but due to their scarcity, require practical synthetic routes to enable structure determination and allow further biological evaluation of their properties in the quest for new therapeutic agents. This project supported by the EPSRC-Pharma initiative is focussed on the synthesis and structure elucidation of leiodolide A, a potent and selective cytotoxic agent towards a number of human cancers. The project is supported for 4 years with a six month industrial placement with AstraZeneca. For further information on this opportunity and informal enquiries please contact Dr Gordon Florence as soon as possible (gjf1@st-andrews.ac.uk). Potential applicants are welcome to arrange to visit St Andrews. Please see:http://www.st- andrews.ac.uk/PGadmissions.html for the application procedure or e-mail chempg@st- andrews.ac.uk for more information. Funding Notes Funding is only available to applicants from the UK only |
