Queen’s University Management School and the Centre of Excellence for Public Health, Northern Ireland

Queen’s University Management School in partnership with the Centre of Excellence for Public Health, Northern Ireland is delighted to offer an Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC) funded PhD Research Studentship covering approved University tuition fees and a maintenance allowance of £13,290 per annum. Commencing preferably by 12 April 2010 but not later than 1 October 2010, the studentship will last for three years (subject to satisfactory progress).

The successful applicant will be required to work as part of health and development economics research team at Queen’s University Management School. The PhD project will examine the impact of hyperbolic discounting on the choice of retirement age, as well as the optimal time path of savings, when life expectancy is exogenous

As part of the application process, applicants are required to submit a research proposal, which clearly demonstrates how your experience and interests align with the aims of the research project. Proposals can be for theoretical or empirical research or both.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for consideration for the studentship a candidate must satisfy all of the requirements below:
• have, or expect to obtain, a Masters degree in a relevant area and hold at least a 2.1 honours degree (or its equivalent) in a relevant subject;
• be ordinarily resident in the UK or Islands (since 12 April 2007). For (non-UK) EU applicants, ordinary residency may include full-time education; and
• be a British Citizen, or have indefinite leave to remain in the UK, or be an EU national or be the child / spouse of an EU national.
