Recent experience w/ OIA or legal action against a university?

User: boycottcrapuniversities - 16 October 2020 20:12

Hi All,

I am looking for some advice. I have had a nightmare time during my PhD and to cut a long story short, my supervisor has been attempting to sabotage me behind my back. Submissions of my work were made without my knowledge to conferences with me written as third author and she also purposely gave inaccurate information to me about the submissions. She has then allowed submission of a presentation with me as first author but with errors, making it look like it was written by someone who does not know English or does not check through their work. She did not send it to me to review and she does not support me to attend conferences. She gave a bitter reply and denied the errors almost claiming they weren't errors (I know my supervisory team would go berserk for this). The dean of school apologised for the first incident (brushed it under the rug) and then for the second incident covered her back (and his).

They are bullies and I wanted to know whether anyone has recent experience with OIA (I have seen the horror stories across forums from 2007-2013)? Has there been an improvement? Has anyone sued their university?

I am sorry to hear this. It sounds like you had a torrid time with a manipulative and abusive supervisor. Although I don't know anyone who successfully sued their university in court. I am not a legal expert but do you have any written evidence of this? If you any written evidence or witnesses, I would consult a lawyer in your home jurisdiction if you have an case.

Thanks for replying, I have written evidence. I am thinking about consulting a legal expert, I am just not sure because the approach of the university very corrupt.

There are not many honest universities out there. They do some shady stuff but they are also smart enough to protect themselves.
