The nocturnal workers' thread

User: chrisrolinski - 10 February 2010 23:02

Hah!

I think "Call the Shots" by Girls Aloud is strangely apt...

"I won't cry for all the hunger in my heart, no
I won't cry because I've made it through this far"

User: walminskipeasucker - 10 February 2010 22:40

Chrisrolinski, forgive my criticism, but you've got your choice of song all wrong...

You need to play this one...

Doo doooo doo dooo doo doo doo dooooo. Da dum da doo doooo doo doooo doo da doo doooo! Can you tell what it is yet?

Didn't think so...

Then it goes...

I said go if you wanna go, stay if you wanna stay...and thought I treated you like a child, I'm gonna miss you for the rest of my lifffffeIIIIIFFeeeee [insert crashing overtuned electric guitar] dooootthhhh! All I need is a miracle, all III neeeeeedddd is you [=PhD]

It's Mike and the Mechanics - you have to admire the chequered shirts and curly mullets in a weird sort of way...

welcome back to the all-night thread.

I think this song is appropriate somehow: Rihanna "Rehab" - although instead of JT, the thesis is "my disease......And I'll never give myself to another
The way I gave it to you
Don't even recognize
The ways you hurt me
Do you?
It's gonna take a miracle to bring me back
And you're the one to blame"

Must stay awake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(need to change music from swedish female songstress similar to Dido - to something upbeat!)

Quote From Natassia:

Thanks for the birthday wishes, I am very nearly finshed but still faffing around...I always have to go through this process though. Will be glad when its handed in, I'm actually looking forward to writing my dissertation proposal and getting stuck into next semester's work, had a tough time personally this semester so this will be a fresh start.

Well done for your productive weekend, hope your day tomorrow goes well and you manage to get everything done! Nx

Oh, happy B-Day Natassia.

A few more hours and i am done with this chapter....

Good luck with it Chrisrolinski - you'll get there. It must be brilliant to be so close to finishing it all - I'm envious at least.

Natassia - I hope you got essay finished soon, and can enjoy your day - Happy Birthday for tomorrow (gift)

Keep going Chrisrolinski, like Sue said, you're so close, so wish I was there!

I'm just finishing up for the night, had a productive weekend at last! :) Chapter 1 almost ready for draft 2 submission, it's starting to really look good! :) and i've just put some of my main data together for chapter 5 (thanks Superman for help with this if you read this thread!). So now it's time for bed! Working 12-9 tomorrow :( so going to lab in morning to print off some stuff and hopefully get chapter 1 stuff finished! Unfortunately need to go to Docs so lets hope can get decent appt otherwise it will mess up all my plans!

Good luck with the nocturnal working (up)

User: BilboBaggins - 07 February 2010 20:23

Good luck to all the night workers out there (and Sue in the day time!). I've just been dealing with correspondence from my sup, re signing and formal submission of my thesis later this week. And expecting to start viva preparation tomorrow, if the ordered book turns up.

Hang on in there PhD-ers, especially those of you near the end.

User: Sue2604 - 07 February 2010 20:19

I hear ya Chrisrolinksi!!! But you're so close now, keep going!!! I know it's hideous for you, but am envious as you're so close to finishing, and I've still got months to go. So, see how well off you are??! ;-)

And know exactly what you mean about life on hold. I've just seen a job I'd like to apply for, but the timing is not right as I'm not ready to go back to employment - but at the moment am thinking that I'll apply, as this thesis is obviously going to take forever and forever no matter what I do, so what's a few more months delay...?

User: Natassia - 07 February 2010 20:19

I am here too....only finishing a MSc essay though that was quite dull at first but now looking quite interesting, shame it has to be in tomorrow really! I don't want to be up too late as its my birthday tomorrow and I have to start my dissertation proposal!

Good luck to everyone else doing more important-sounding PhDs! Nx

Yes, it is -4 here, so plenty of fresh cold air coming in through the open window to keep me awake!

Going to spend most of the night sipping tea.

Can't wait to get this thesis done. I need to get it out of the way and move on with life.

User: Sue2604 - 07 February 2010 19:58

Hi Angel, those are long hours! Hope you're eating well and getting some exercise/fresh air. You too Chrisrolinski. I'm also working, altho it's almost 7am where I am. So I'm here too to keep you company.

User: angelofthenorth - 07 February 2010 19:50

Yup, on a 20 minute break. Finished at 1am this morning, started at 8am and will go til about 11pm tonight. And repeat....

Absolutely knackered!
