The nocturnal workers' thread

Quote From walminskipeasucker:

Hello Danzig, and hallo gibt, Chrisrolinski. I hope we can all manage to get something productive done tonight, or, as Chrisrolinski might say, '
Ich hoffe, wir können eine Menge von Schreiben und Lesen erfolgt'.:-)

Wie ich sehe übst Du schon für den neuen Brüno Film. 8-)

There's me too!!!! Making a sketch out of my conceptual framework with scholars in my 'Room' speaking to each be discussed at Thursday's supervision!!! :-) (Intellectual inspiration, dark room, mild table lamp, caramel custard and some music....)

Nein, nicht Bruno! ;) Die Lesung ist gut, und Sie?

Hi PhDBug, welcome on board. :-)

IHey chris, just re-arranging some old data which I did years ago and have to go through again. Nothing big at this stage just some annoying little details. I'm already tired. :-(

Good morning PhD bug - hope your work's going well. Myself? I've been writing all day and am starting to get a head ache. I'm on the ropes in fact, and may have to alight the Midnight Express early by pulling the emergency lever. Mmm...we'll see. Hope it's all going well for everyone else :)

Well, it's nocturnal for me now, but not for the majority of users I suspect. Anyway, I'm on board and will be travelling the night train for a while longer. Have just finished writing an article which my supervisor is finally, exhaustingly, finally, happy with, and am now plodding through formatting the references. Then there's another piece of work done for a bit!

Is freezing here, but have some tea, some chocolate, some music and the end is in sight.

Welcome on board, Sue! Anyone else working late tonight? I'm writing some of my methodology chapter and it's fxxking terrible -doesn't flow proper or anything! I hope this is normal.

User: walminskipeasucker - 16 July 2009 01:43

Oh, the loneliness of the nocturnal worker! Still going for the moment though. Anyone else about?

Ah damn, last night I had an idea for checking something up on my data, an extra analysis just for fun and what happens? Just finished the analysis and it threw up something really interesting which I really should include. Damn, back to the chapter and write it in. :-s

I am joining this thread if nobody objects!

Got a chapter draft due in tomorrow which...isn't going to happen. There's so much to do that there's no way I can get it finished but I feel so bad I'm going to make myself stay up and do as much as I can anyway. So angry at myself, I just could not get motivated to do the work until now : (

Anybody about?

User: Sue2604 - 22 July 2009 12:44

Any others working nocturnally at the moment? Today I had a good day :-) My sup said that a piece I had written was a "delight to her eyes"! Which was very nice. And tonight I'm starting on a new chapter - the introduction! Not rewriting other stuff endlessly, but starting a whole new chapter!! Now that's exciting! A scary blank page, with a few sub-headings on it!

...just need to not get tired now...

User: Lara - 22 July 2009 13:09

hehe i love how this thread is relevant no matter what the local time is, cause somewhere on Earth it is night!

i'm also joining in :-)

its not nighttime for me, its 1pm.

my aims for today is to finish summaring my methods chapter. reading each page, and summarising it into a few sentences the important bits.

User: Sue2604 - 23 July 2009 09:04

It's only just gone nocturnal - but I've had enough for the day. Yesterday was so excited at writing something new - the introduction - and today it's just terrible. Have been writing hundreds of twee, boring, repetitive words. I read my supervisor's thesis, and her intro is vibrant and exciting! Makes you want to read more! Mine is dull, crappy, doesn't flow and now am confused about what is context, what's history and what's the sexy new bit. That doesn't even make sense to me...sigh....:-(

I think the washing up offers more satisfaction at the moment.

I'm jumping on for the first time tonight. I hope the Midnight Express takes me somewhere worth going. For three and half years I've been thinking of myself as a morning person but something has happened of late; even though it's crucial that I finish this autumn I've been sitting staring at the computer screen for hour after long hour every day. The days start off beautifully full of possibility and unrealistic fantasies about writing 10, 000 and inevitably end with me switching on the telly around 9pm and heading to bed a couple of hours later. Well THAT'S IT. I've had it with myself and my time-wasting. From now on, if I don't complete what I set out to do during the day, I am no longer allowed to put it off until a tomorrow that never comes- I'm catching the night train. I hope I have some company :-)

User: Sue2604 - 28 July 2009 00:24

Hi Kaymoy

Hope the night train works for you. I'm also a morning person, and whenever I've tried to force myself to stay up late, it doesn't work and I sit there staring at the screen...but I hope you get your work done.

I've been a total procrastinator lately. Have a seminar paper to give in a week, and haven't even started researching the area, let alone writing the presentation...and somehow just don't seem to care. The thought of humiliating myself in front of a roomful of people doesn't even worry me at the moment....ok, maybe it does a little bit. No more forum until I've done 3 hours work!
