Hi fellows, i am doing phd in electrical engineering. I have made several designs and none of them works fine so far. Now my contract may end after less than a year. Do you think i should ask my supervisor to do a new alternative to get my phd? For ex. I do a theoritical analysis and publish a paper about it?
The problem is that i want to know what happens if my designs dont work at all. Will i still get a phd or not? Here the supervisor has the ultimate power to decide if your work worth a phd degree or not. Thank you in advance

In the UK you would still get a PhD if you did everything correctly but for some reason the project didn't 'work'. You need to check what happens in your department/country in situations like this.

I am in Germany and here it is not rare to leave after 4 or 5 years without a phd. They pay you salary as a research assistant at least in my case but the drawback is that you may get a phd or not
