Study trip to USA - accommodation

User: Tudor_Queen - 31 January 2018 19:53

Hi there

Has anyone here travelled to the US for a short time (e.g., a month) on a study visit? I am having some difficulty securing accommodation, and wondered if maybe cause it just for a single month that I am after I should wait till nearer the time (it's not till May). But then I don't want to leave it so late that I can't find anywhere at all!

If you have a similar experience please let me know.

Thanks
Tudor.

Your best bet is to get the supervisor to email round the postgrads and ask if someone's got a short term room going.

Some unis do have academic accommodation for short term visitors, but it's usually pretty expensive. You can check with the admin team there.

It's the same as here in this respect from my experience.

Thanks ToL. I'm a bit fussy and really would prefer a studio to myself (which may be why I'm having difficulties). I may give it a month or so and then include rooms in my search, as well as asking the supervisor there to drop an email around.

Have you thought about Airbnb or similar? Sometimes, there are good deals.

Thanks Meep. I've looked at something like that and found it quite expensive. But maybe I will do better looking nearer the time.

Finally found somewhere and booked it! Airbnb! It wasn't too expensive after all... I had accidentally entered dates and the prices it was displaying were for those dates whereas I thought they were for a single night. Lol! Good job no one knows what I twit I am! Thanks for your help : ) It is such a relief to have that part sorted.
