Feeling Miserable, missed multiple deadlines.

User: FunIr - 14 March 2018 00:51

Hi,
Im a phd student currently on my 7th months. Ive been accepted to do a project that is jointly funded by the uni and an external company. I feel really demotivated and frustrated with myself right now cause I have now missed multiple deadlines.

My journey was fine until the end of january. On that month I had 3 deadline from a module required to be taken by all first year phd student. Ihave managed to submit all of it in time as i took is as the highest priority. In December just before Christmas my sponsor and supervisor had asked me to write a survey paper to be published. They wanted me to be finish a draft in January. I still havent managed to finish it. In the phd project plan the deliverable for the first work package is in January, I was required to submit a literature report to sponsor.

I have sent the literature report
to my supervisor to check before submitting it to the sponsor. He had rejected my report without reading it as he thinks the deliverables is to write a survey paper. This wasnt in the orginal plan.

At the end of January they had also asked me to come out with some sort of test and write a test plan(I have no idea what sort of test, they just want me to come up with something). I managed to submit it 1 week late.

I have regular meetings with the company once every 2 week. I had to organise and manage all the meetings myself. The company has a high expectations, they expect me to present them with some results on every meeting (evry two weeks). So far I have managed to come out with something until 3 weeks ago. I didnt have enough time and was really demotivated. I have yet to organise a meeting with the company since 3 weeks ago. The company had just asked my supervisor what happend to me and why i have not submitted the deliverables yet.

I really feel like quiting right now.

You need to be honest with your supervisor and sponsor. Tell them both what both sides are asking you to do and only agree to work that you can do in the time. Show them your schedule of planned work so they know that you are working adequately.
