which field of theory am i drawing from??

User: sfaye - 09 November 2016 15:14

I am developing my theoretical framework and have identified the theorists and concepts, but there are so many fields of theory that i don't know how to situate my theorists to a body of theory i.e. 'critical medical anthropology' or an 'interpretive approach'. It would be fantastic if there was a typology of theory so I could identify this easier. Can anyone offer some advice about this please?

It's difficult to answer this as an outsider to your discipline but from what you've said I'd recommend starting with ontology and epistemology. In my discipline there are lots of good introductory methodology texts which clearly outline the rationale and aims of different ontology/epistemology/methodology. This might help you to see the bigger picture and where your different theorists and concepts align.

Best wishes
