Submitted manuscript awaiting recommendation - what does this mean?

User: Tudor_Queen - 24 November 2016 15:18

Hi all

I submitted a revised manuscript (only a few changes requested) to a journal, and have been signing in periodically to see what the status is. It has changed today from "Awaiting Reviewer Scores" to "Awaiting recommendation". Any idea what this means?

Cheers

Ooh, after googling I've found out that it means it is back with the editor for a final decision. I guess it could go either way now.

Yes, you are right.
The manuscript is about to come back with a final decision.

Thanks Leila. Anyone know if awaiting a decision on a revised paper should be quicker than the decision on the original submission? It is taking ages and they didn't even ask for that many changes!

Not necessarily, depends how much work the editor/AE has on.

Ah yes, makes sense!

I was rejected but offered the opportunity to make significant revisions. I re-submitted back in June and I just saw the "awaiting recommendation" update approx 5 days ago. I'm on pins and needles because it's the top journal in my field.

Hello "Tudor_Queen. Any idea about "Awaiting Recommendation" status meaning even after several revisions. How long does it take to get the final decision?

User: Tudor_Queen - 14 December 2017 11:27

Hehe! I think this is one of those how long is a piece of string things and we just have to learn to be patient! Shouldn't be too long if you've already been through several rounds of revisions (it can be held up of one reviewer says they are now too busy and so it has to be reassigned to someone else... or it can be held up just if one party, ie a reviewer or the editor, is slow for whatever reason). Fingers crossed!

Now I've had to just go and check the status of mine... Awaiting reviewer assignment... zzzzzz....

Dear Tudor_Queen, I would like to know in your case, how long the manuscript has taken for the final decision after status was showing "awaiting recommendation"?

I'm so sorry - I didn't see this till now. I still don't have a final decision, but I've just checked and it has now changed to "Awaiting recommendation", so I guess I find out their decision soon. I submitted it on 30th Nov if that's of any help.

Haha! I googled to find out what "Awaiting recommendation" means, and this is what came up. I read it with interest and felt informed. Then scrolled back up to see who the original poster was who asked the question and it was me! Two years ago and I had completely forgotten the answer to my own question.

Thomus please ignore my recent response. That was actually referring to my SECOND paper (which I am still awaiting the outcome for). I don't think it took long for them to get back to me last time when it changed to awaiting recommendation. Maybe a few days.
