Why is this project important?. Soil is the foundation of all agricultural systems. It is a complex biophysical system of aggregated particles and pore networks that, if managed carefully, provides plants with the medium for roots to grow and extract water and nutrients in order to produce food and fibre.

Phosphorus (P) pollution remains a major cause of surface water quality failures under the Water Framework Directive. Abating P pollution in agricultural catchments requires informed decisions about the likely effectiveness of land management mitigation measures and their spatial targeting.
