Cosmic Chemistry in the Laboratory - Fully funded PhD Studentship in Laboratory Astrochemistry
  Dr E Campbell
Application Deadline: 31 March 2019
This project bridges the research fields of molecular spectroscopy, nanoscience, chemical physics and astronomy. The aim is to investigate, using a unique combination of modern tools, the gas phase spectroscopic and chemical properties of carbonaceous molecules that are of central importance to astrochemistry.
Computational Astrochemistry/Algorithm development for Quantum Dynamics Calculations
  Prof AJHM Meijer
Applications accepted all year round
Quantum Dynamics calculations are significantly harder than standard electronic structure calculations due to the exponential scaling with respect to basis set size.
Dynamics of Inelastic and Reactive Molecular Collisions
  Prof M L Costen
Application Deadline: 8 February 2019
Detailed understanding of molecular collisions, and the resulting energy transfer and/or reaction is vital to improved modelling of a wide range of important chemical environments, including planetary atmospheres, combustion and plasma systems and astrochemistry.
Probing the molecular composition of planet-forming regions with ALMA
  Dr C Walsh
Applications accepted all year round
ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, is a state-of-the-art telescope in Chile. It has the resolution and sensitivity to observe emission from dust and gas on size scales similar to that of the Solar System in nearby young exoplanet-forming systems.
